Transitions, Puppies, and Babies

It has been way too long since I have last posted anything on our blog. Mike and I are coming up on our 4 month wedding anniversary. Our fortune cookie at dinner one night said that if you can survive 2 months of marriage, you will have a happy life. I guess we are headed on the right track! Since my last post, we made some changes at work and I am now manager over our downtown OKC office. I love being downtown and love that it is about a 10 minute drive closer to home. I work mostly with corporate accounts that rent with Enterprise and I have met alot of really neat people.

Mike has almost survived his first semester of law school. I have been proud of his diligence at keeping to a study schedule during the week/weekends. We go to church in Mustang and he has made some friends at church that go to the same law school. Funny how you end up where you need to be. I feel that being in this ward has been a blessing for Mike and I. We have had the opportunity to make new friends, all of whom have been willing to help us transition to this stage in our life as newly weds. On Sundays, Mike serves as sunday school president and I am a primary teacher over 9 year old kids. I was petrified when I first found out that I would be teaching in primary---mostly because I (A) have never thought of myself as a teacher, especially when it comes to teaching scriptures and (B) don't have kids. I spent the next week after I found out googling what 9 year old kids know. Can they read? Will they understand the stories? Haha, needless to say, my calling has been fun. I have a great group of kids in class who have in turn actually taught me the scripture stories. For those of you wondering, yes they can read. :)

About 2 weeks ago, Mike surprised me one morning with the idea of getting a weimaraner puppy when he graduates law school. Though 2 years away, I was really excited. I say "surprised" because Mike has never been one to want pets in the home. I learned that he had always wanted a weimaraner, though, so we have come to the agreement that when we buy a house, we will get a puppy. I have started my research on weimaraners so that I will be a full-blown expert when the time comes.

After yesterday, though, Mike may need to start looking at finding a puppy sooner! We went to Tulsa to see our new nephew, Joseph Ellis. He came 2 weeks early and we couldn't be more ecstatic to have him here! He is such a sweet boy and his parents (of now 3 children) looked so happy. I am a proud aunt. I enjoyed looking at the baby nursery and walking the halls with Rachel, having her answer all my baby questions (By the way, did you know that one of the tests they do at birth measures brain activity when sounds are emitted into the child's ears? The test is made to catch any hearing defects early in life so the child has a better chance to hear). Mike thinks I have caught the "baby bug". Though being a mom is something I am very excited for, I have come to the conclusion that for now, life will take us where we need to be. In the meantime, though, I will enjoy being an aunt to 3 nieces and 1 nephew!
